I love Hasui!
Because the drawings in this book do not contain the same detail as the original pictures, one is forced to create their own lines in certain areas. Overall, it is a good representation of Hasui's works. Rather than use my typical gel pens, I have had to use colored pencils in this book.

Great for Serious Colorists!!!
Wonderful coloring book for serious colorists! Ideally the print in the water parts would be a little lighter. However, the book is still 5 stars and the editor included a picture of each of the artist's original watercolor pictures on the inside cover. The pictures are not just color block fill-in b/c you are attempting to get a water color result from colored pencils. I did not try real water colors or markers with my page. From the paper weight I doubt you could use actual water colors. Markers might work fine, but, as stated, I didn't try them b/c I have so few.I used Lyra's artist grade colored pencils to color the attached image. The artist's is on your left & my colored page, which I removed from the book is on your right. Total color time for 1 picture was 2 days ( or 8-10 hours). As, you can see, I enhanced some of the colors in my own. I wanted more vibrant cherry blossoms even though it was night.I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a challenge and enjoys analysis and shading.

Masterpiece
This homage to the artist's work can't be beat. I love looking up the original painting and using it as a guide to paint and color. I've used alcohol markers, watercolors, colored pencils and soft pastels on these pages, and they provide endless hours of magical painting. I love that these are historic, celebrated paintings that are rendered in uncomplicated line work for the colorist to get out their colors and play. These make for frameable pieces.

Great coloring book
I'm working on my 11th page from this book and still have no need to use my other books. The pics are printed on one side of the paper and different line weights in the drawings add to the quality of the images. My only issue is the paper soaks up watercolors so they leave brush marks, so I don't use water or alcohol markers in this book. However the paper takes colored pencil layers well, and using a solvent gives awesome results. I love the images so much I still give it 5 stars!

Japanese woodblock master class
What a great colouring in book. I have several of Hasui's prints and the colouring in book is a gem. One print on a single page, clear and accurate representations of his work and best of all, the inside covers both front and back have copies in colour of the original woodblock prints, so you can follow or be inspired by the master's work. Good quality paper.

Love it!
I'm not quite skilled enough to tackle Kawase Hasui's beautiful works of art but I wanted the book for when I am. I love Japan and all things Japanese. And, I wanted a coloring book that was more scenic in nature and this is perfect since it also includes lovely thumbprints of Kawase Hasui's work.

Very nice coloring book
Very nice coloring book. It's good they only put pictures on one side of each page so the coloring doesn't bleed thru to the drawing on the other side.Great pictures with a good price and fast shipping - a nice trio.
