Not rocket science but a sold introduction
This is a good way in for anyone with a little IT knowledge and nous. It's clear and well structured, as you'd expect, but it has its limits. If you've already got some hands on experience with Javascript etc, you might prefer something a little more advanced.

Covers everything web
This is a book of biblical proportions (over 800 pages) priced at the cost of a much more moderate book. It covers the contents of 8 books in one:Understanding Web Coding BasicsLearning HTML and CSSGetting to Know JavaScriptTaking Advantage of jQueryDiscovering PHP and MySQLCoding Dynamic WebpagesCoding Web AppsCoding mobile Web AppsFor me the last two were the least useful as I am not really into apps but the earlier sections are invaluable in getting started with web-pages that are going to deliver active content based on a MySQL backend database. It was just what I needed to get going.

Five Stars - 100% - Excellent!
Firstly, this is a well laid out book that you can actually read without straining your eyes. It covers virtually everything to do with Web Coding & Development in considerable detail. This book delivers on what it promises - an "All-in-One" guide for Dummies. I absolutely love it - I'll use it and I'm very happy to have it on my bookshelf for quick reference.100% HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! AAA+++

Very clear and readable
This is a really good book on these web technologies. The "For Dummies" range has got a lot stronger in recent years and there is less waffle and more technical details - you don't want to read 3 pages to find a simple command. However this volume details these technologies very well and covers everything necessary in clear and readable sections. Highly recommended.

One Stop Shop
I developed my own website and have a basic grasp of html, but this is as far as my knowledge went. I wanted a book to unravel the mysteries of coding and start me on the path. This book does not disappoint. It really is an all in one book for the beginner. It is eight books in one so covers every aspect of coding. I have had a quick look through but I am currently taking it slowly with regards to going through the book. What I have used so far has been helpful in the extreme and served to move my understanding forward. For those with a more thorough knowledge base it may be too simplistic, but for the novice it proves excellent.

Comprehensive Book
Four stars for this. One star deducted for the cheap quality of the paper. However this seems to be the trend these days. I also hate the for Dummies nonsense. It is a ridiculous concept and I wonder if they now regret publishing serious technical books under such a stupid concept as no one who can get through this book starts out as a dummy. Anyway, to the book: this starts from the beginning but in reality in no time at all you are getting into stuff that if you have no experience with computers may well put you off. There is no way around the fact that if you want to learn anything deep with IT, like everything else, maths, languages, you name it, you have to put in the time and work hard. That said, this is good enough to get you started and take you a long way. I doubt most people who buy these books would expect this one alone to cover everything they need or that they need to learn everything in the book.

Great for newbies and seasoned web builders alike
This is a cracking book - loads of useful info and all presented in the usual Dummies style with plenty of asides and flags for important info.I'm skeptical of the '8 books in one's claims that Dummies are using a lot at the moment - and this book even refers to the constituent "mini-book"s in places - but this volume genuinely contains a lot of topics that warrant separate book treatment.I've been web developing since the early nineties (back when images, tables and forms were the big new thing!) but this book contains information that is both useful, interesting and for for thought even for a web dinosaur like me.I particularly found the mini books on CSS and jQuery well presented and useful. With CSS the are always multiple ways to do things and just when I think I understand selectors something catches me out. This book goes back to basics and makes it all seem so simple.Great for anyone just starting out as it explains how a website works from server to browser, but also a very useful reference for seasoned web builders.
