Results are in and trying them out.
This product was so helpful. For the past few months I’ve been blindly trying to figure out the best things to feed my dog to improver her hot spots since the vet said it could come from food and/or environmental allergies. Well after taking this test I realized I never had to take chicken out of her diet instead there are other things that were in the red for her that are present in her current dry foods. I will be discontinuing the use of those and from now on reading the ingredients up against the results given here and see if that helps with her itching and biting before trying the shots the vet recommended because I think if she stops the things her body can’t handle she’ll be just fine.

Easy to use
I ordered this test as my dog Bubba has had a very sensitive tummy for a while now. I had some guesses as to what might be the triggers, but wasn’t sure. The test was so easy to do! Just a hair sample, drop it in the mail, and I had results in less than a week! It was so fast! There’s an app so I can access his results anytime! I was right on some things and surprised by others. I am already making changes to his diet! We highly recommend if your pet has yummy issues!

Full testing
Finally found the cause of my dog’s constant itching! My dog had been scratching like crazy for months — to the point of breaking the skin. We couldn’t figure out what was causing it until we tried the 5Strands test. Turns out he’s highly sensitive to chicken and grains! We changed his diet based on the results, and within just a few days, the itching stopped. He’s so much more comfortable and relaxed now.So grateful for this test — it gave us real answers and peace of mind. Highly recommend for any pet parent dealing with mysterious symptoms!

This was not the correct one I needed to buy.
This was informative. However I was kinda confised how to read it. It has a lot of ways that chicken may affect my dog. However I just don’t feed him chicken for now until I can find out more info.

Results are laughable, don't trust it.
Our dog has serious GI issues so we wanted to see if he might be intolerant to some foods, so we got a 5Strands test. I got the "raw" panel because I thought it would include the "regular" test's results + more, but it's a completely different panel that leaves out a LOT of essential dog foods/treats (peanut butter, for example). We got the results back and were flabbergasted to find our dog was, according to 5Strands, intolerant to most meats, protein, and b12. In fact, the B12 was a "level 3", the highest level where 5Strands recommends removing it completely from the diet if possible. Also, seemingly, our dog is "intolerant" to Chicken Breast, free range (Level 3), but NOT Chicken Breast, conventionally raised (Level 0). I'd love to know how that distinction was made and what the difference is that would cause free range vs. "conventional" to be on opposite ends of the spectrum. Here's what the NIH says about b12: "Vitamin B12 is required for the development, myelination, and function of the central nervous system; healthy red blood cell formation; and DNA synthesis "B12 is ESSENTIAL for living, so we were immediately dubious about the results and sent them to our vet. Our vet actually called 5Strands to figure out what their testing methodology was that could result in showing a serious b12 intolerance and they wouldn't tell him!I get testing methods are proprietary but to be so secretive that you refuse to assuage the concerns from a medical professional calling you to confirm results makes me feel like this is a serious waste of money. Wish I could've gotten a refund because this is as close to a scam as I can believe.

Quick, easy, and incredibly helpful for figuring out what foods your pet should avoid!
I’m so glad I tried this test for my pets! The process was super simple—just collect a small hair sample and send it off. I got results back quickly and was surprised at how detailed the report was. Highly recommend if your pet has mystery symptoms or food sensitivities!

Test works!
My 6 mo old goldendoodle broke out in rash all over his abdomen and he kept licking it raw. I ordered a cooked food intolerance test and it looked like he was reactive to everything except pork, chicken hearts, green beans, butternut squash, cauliflower, peas and coconut products. So I made homemade food just with these ingredients and his rash went away in 2 days and never came back. He has only been consuming only these foods for 6 mos so I'm retesting him at 13 mos old and see if his body can tolerate other foods so I can add some variety. This test saved me from multiple vet visits to resolve the inexplicable rash

If accurate, it will be hard to find food to match.
The breakdown of intolerance is very granular. Assuming the results are accurate, it will require extensive effort to prepare raw meals that are balanced. If you decide to go commercial, it is very difficult. For example, there may be no intolerance to chicken breast, but maybe one to chicken thighs. Then you would need to find a product that matches and ingredients specifies mention more than just chicken. Also, there may be an intolerance to kale. If kale is in that recipe, then you're sol.
