Too much work
Was looking for one of the older more traditional type thermometers when I purchased this one. But it takes forever to shake down just so that you can even take a temperature. Hard to read. Not happy with this purchase at all.

Works but is too fragile
I bought this thermometer and used it once while healthy, just to make sure it worked. It took around 6 minutes under the tongue for the temperature to finally read 98.6. It hit 98 early on but then took forever to stop edging upward to its final reading. However, after all that, it did at least appear to work correctly and measure accurately, if somewhat more slowly than the directions suggest. I was able to shake the liquid back into the tip with no problem. The reason I am giving this such a low review is that I then proceeded to rinse it off under warm tap water, and it exploded. That is, the tip literally exploded off the end. Nothing was touching it except running water. To prevent a safety risk, I feel that glass thermometers should be made of tempered glass, or at least glass that is strong enough to withstand the same temperature range of water that bare skin can withstand. If I can't wash it off in warm, soapy water after each use, then what's the point?I mean sure, what does one expect for six bucks, right? I suppose if you only cleaned it using room temperature rubbing alcohol, and handled it very gingerly, this would be a fine thermometer. As for me, I returned mine and got my money back.

Doesn't measure temperature
Mine stays between 98.6 and 1 and 2 ticks above that. I put it under my arm for 10 minutes. No change. In the fridge for a week. No change. What's the point of the fluid inside if it's not temperature sensitive? And what's the point of this product?

a Good thermometer
It comes with a plastic tray that the thermometer slides into. Then, you slide that tray into a crudely-magnified plastic tube. You still have to turn it around back and forth to be able to see the line, but the magnification does help.Pros: Magnifier does make it a little easier to read than most mercury-styles. In practical use, by slipping it into the plastic case to read it, you naturally store it safe and secure.Cons: This thermometer does take 6 minutes for an accurate reading. It is also pretty wide (although the very tip is 1/8", it widens to about 3/8"), which is a little uncomfortable to hold in your mouth compared to the old-fashioned 1/8" type.Regarding the one review, it has withstood many rinses in the sink, but, I will admit that it does seem like it might be fragile - it is a thin piece of glass. Just be gentle with it.
